Committees

In addition to the Board and Divisional Committees, EAGE also has an Advisory Council and a number of permanent committees in place:

Technical Programme Committee (TPC)

The Technical Programme Committee is chaired by the Technical Programme Officer, who is elected by the EAGE membership. The members are the Technical Programme Officers, representing the various disciplines, of the Divisions.

The Technical Programme Committee is responsible for the technical programme of the Annual Conference and other conferences, workshops, meetings etc. of the Association. It supports the technical programme of other conferences, meetings, workshops etc. in cases of involvement of the Association. The work of the Technical Programme Committee comprises the acquisition, refereeing, selection and programming of oral and poster papers, workshops, field trips etc. and assistance to the Board in the long-term planning of the Technical Programme.

The scope of the REvC is to address the impact of new technologies on the estimation, classification and categorization of Reserves and resources, paying due attention to uncertainty and with a non-exclusive technical focus on the integration of geophysical methods with Reserves characterization and modelling.

The REvC aims to increase awareness and competence relating to the classification and categorization of Reserves and resources amongst its membership and in the geoscience community at large through journal articles, short courses, targeted workshops and dedicated sessions at the annual conference.

Due to its wide scope the REvC may operate with subcommittees each dedicated to a type of resource.

Call for Committee Members

The OGGD would like to invite motivated and qualified geoscientists and engineers to apply to serve as members of the EAGE’s Resource Evaluation Committee (REvC). Please note candidates for the Committee need to be EAGE members with an active subscription in the current year.

If interested please contact us at eage@eage.org for further information.

The EAGE Research Committee (RC) acts as a voice of the members towards the EAGE organization, especially regarding issues related to the scientific content. The RC members come from the various application fields within our community, having specialisms like seismics (the majority), other geophysical applications, petroleum engineering, near surface and geology.

The RC members are all motivated to keep the technical standards of the EAGE as high as they have been. By all means we try to help EAGE to bring a broad, high-level and dedicated scientific program towards the geoscience community.

One of the main activities of the EAGE RC is to organize workshops during the annual meeting and contribute in organizing stand-alone workshops, like the yearly joint SEG-EAGE Summer Research Workshop. Furthermore, the RC supports dedicated sessions during the annual EAGE meeting.

In addition the RC advises the EAGE organization in issues that are of importance to the membership and spot new trends that may need attention. The RC can also start new initiatives, like was done a few years ago with the introduction of the “Earthdat” portal at the EAGE website, in order to gather information on geophysical data, models and software.

The AC comprises a Chair in addition to a team of voting members who cover the geoscientific and related engineering disciplines, 5 members will be ex officio the latest 5 past presidents in a rolling sequence timed with the Presidential rolling sequence; 4 members will be the latest 2 Erasmus and 2 Wegener Awardees in a rolling sequence timed with the annual awarding process. All members of the Awards Committee must be bona fide EAGE members.

The Chair and the members are nominated biannually and must be ratified and approved by the EAGE Board, a process that would normally occur at the Board Meeting held at the Annual Conference. The Chair has the duty to keep the committee populated and balanced (in terms of geographical distribution and professional back ground). The Chair and the Awards Committee members are all independent of the Board but the Vice-President-Elect or the Vice-President is an ex officio, non-voting member of the AC, responsible for liaison with the Board.

The AC recommends candidates for the various statutory EAGE Awards no later than 1st December of each year so that they may be considered by the EAGE Board at their December Board meeting. The best papers awards will be nominated by 14th February in time for the March Board Meeting – so that the last issue of First Break and our cited international journals can be given appropriate consideration.

The AC reports to the Board and is advised by the Vice-President or the Vice-President Elect. The Board has the final decision on its recommendations. However, the Board is not permitted to make counter or new proposals.

EAGE is not obliged to offer every Award in every year. Most Awards are limited to one candidate or group of candidates. Honorary Membership and, in exceptional circumstances, the Schlumberger Award may be offered to a maximum of two (2) candidates.

The Programme for Association and Cooperation in Earth Sciences (PACE) is funded by EAGE and supports individual geoscientists to participate actively in selected EAGE events. This support is available for accepted speakers who cannot obtain financial support from other sources. With the PACE programme, EAGE strives to encourage the exchange of information and knowledge among the global geoscientific community.
